American Red Cross Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) program

Services Provided: Financial/Basic Needs, Health, SDMFC Members

Red Cross WIC is a supplemental nutrition program to help pregnant women, infants, and children (up to age five) eat well, stay healthy, and be active. WIC is a federally funded program administered by the California Department of Public Health.

For 40 years, Red Cross WIC has been providing checks to qualifying families to buy essential foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, baby food, cereal, milk, eggs, and cheese. Additionally, WIC participants receive nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to community resources.

Many military families qualify for WIC and do not know it. Certain pays and allowances, like BAH, are not counted in WIC income qualifications. We have 19 offices throughout the county, including 7 military sites.
