With the holidays quickly approaching having a budget has never been more important. While this time of year is filled with cheer, naturally we all know it brings additional expenses. San Diego has many holiday supports and services to give back to those active duty families that give by serving all year long! To discuss this topic further, we have selected “Budgeting and Financial Fitness” as the theme of our November Convenings. North County Convening: Friday, November 14th from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Veteran’s Association of North County Central County Convening: Friday, November 21st* from 9:00am – 11:00am at United Way of San Diego.

November 9: Military Family Day at the Fleet Science Center
Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code Sunday, November 9, 10:00am – 6:00pm
On Sunday, November 9th military families can explore the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center’s newest exhibit “Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code” in Balboa Park for free in honor of Military Family Month. Families can explore the museum, enjoy hands-on activities and special programming, connect with scientists from local science institutions and universities, and find out about local resources available to them. Hands-on activities include:
Find out what origami and remote control cars can teach us about how scientists study genomes.
The Zoo in You: The Human Microbiome Exhibit
Get up close and personal with the polymers that are the blueprint of life. Join the Salk Institute to extract DNA from a cell and find out what color DNA really is.
Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code provides visitors with a high-tech, highly engaging exhibition experience, offering visitors insights into what exactly is the human genome and genomics, what it means for our health and medicine, how it provides knowledge or our ancestry, and how we as humans connect and differ from other living things.
