April Convening’s & Events

April is Month of the Military Child. Join us as we celebrate and honor Military Kids. We will have some special guests to share with us their own personal experiences. The details are below:

North County Convening: Friday, April 10th from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Veteran’s Association of North County (1617 Mission Ave., Oceanside, CA, 92058)

Central County Convening: Friday, April 24th from 9:00am – 11:00am at Coleman University, Graduation Room (8888 Balboa Ave, San Diego, CA 92123) **LOCATION CHANGE FOR CENTRAL COUNTY CONVENING**

April 13: Military Transition: The Spouse Edition

Our next “Military Transition: The Spouse Edition” workshop is Monday, April 13th from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM. The workshop will be held at Newbreak Church (10791 Tierrasanta Blvd #104, San Diego, CA 92124). We still have 50% of the spots open for the workshop so if you or someone you know is interested in the workshop, please help us in spreading the word!! I’ve included the PDF and JPEG flyer for easy sharing J

**It is never too early to start thinking about the transition process. Folks who are thinking about re-enlisting or transitioning out are also welcome to attend**

This is a half-day workshop geared towards spouses whose service members are transitioning from active duty to civilian (or reserve) life.  Presentations and small group Q&A sessions are provided from Fleet & Family Support Center, the VA, and United Healthcare.

Participants are provided a binder of resources, as well as information on topics including:

  • Finances
  • Healthcare
  • Employment
  • Understanding VA Benefits
  • Emotional Support
  • Education Benefits

April 16: Joint task Force Meeting

Our April Joint Task Force Meeting is Thursday, April 16th. Feel free to come check out our 3 task forces who are working on initiatives to help military families make a successful transition from active duty to civilian life.

April 25 & 26: The Wall That Heals – Salute To Service Fair

The Wall That Heals (TWTH)  — a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. along with a mobile Education Center — will be hosted by VVMF and the USS Midway Museum from April 25th to April 30th in San Diego. The Wall replica will be set up on the flight deck of the USS Midway for free, 24-hour public viewing.

On Saturday, April 24 & Sunday, April 25th there will be a “Salute to Service Fair” for military members, veterans and their families. **They are seeking organizations to have resource tables at this fair**

Here is the information about the Salute to Service Fair:
Saturday, 4/25 and Sunday, 4/26
10:00am – 5:00pm

Harbor Drive adjacent to the USS Midway

In addition, the San Diego Military Family Collaborative, along with the Military Children’s Collaborative and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, will be putting on a “Military Child Appreciation” Ceremony at 1:00 PM on Saturday, 4/25. Stay tuned for more information!
