February 2019 Convening Recap: Blue Star Families 2018

On Friday, February 22, the San Diego Military Family Collaborative hosted its second Monthly Convening of the year at Mission Valley Library. This month’s topic was focused on the results of the Blue Star Families 2018 Military Family Lifestyle Survey results, featuring panelists Hisako Sonethavilay, Staci Holt, and Laura Torres.

The SDMFC was proud to host Blue Star Families and allow their three panelists an opportunity to share the information from their 2018 survey as a sort of book-end to our January convening, which focused on the results of the San Diego Regional Veterans and Family Wellness Strategy report.

In both reports, an overwhelming number of military families, as well as those who work directly with military families, noticed that some of the greatest concerns of active duty service members and their spouses was spending time with their families – something that can definitely be an issue in dealing with temporary duty and deployment. As the San Diego Regional Veteran and Family Wellness Strategy report indicates, there is a lack of services available for military family dependents, who are predominately children.
