“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate acts of its members.” – Coretta Scott King

On Friday, October 26, 2018, the San Diego Military Family Collaborative (SDMFC) hosted its 9th Annual Conference, themed “Six Degrees of Collaboration.” On behalf of everyone at the SDMFC, thank you to all those who helped, participated, and attended the conference! Our goal was to encourage an environment where service providers, command leadership, elected officials, social workers, volunteers, active duty and veterans, and military spouses could interact and network with each other, and learn about the importance of being a part of our Collaborative. Without everyone’s participation and support, we could not have had such a successful and impactful event!

The event was held at Bankers Hill Club, and featured guest speakers, Rear Admiral Yancy B. Lindsey and Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, as well as keynote speaker, Congresswoman Susan Davis. The event also featured a special report by Dr. Kim Hunt of the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Research, regarding the initial findings of the San Diego Regional Veteran & Family Wellness Strategy (a.k.a., “Community Conversations”).  We were also honored to have Calvin and Rosa Simmons provide a personal testimonial of their ups and downs as a military family, which allowed those in attendance to see and hear how their work impacts real people in our community.

Below are some photos of the Conference, taken by our friend Bill Perno. If you attended and took photos, please send them to us so we can share them here and on our social media pages! Send them to darmstrong@saysandiego.org – thank you!
